LCR Apprenticeship Ambassador Seqirus Announce EU Vaccine Contract Success

Liverpool City Region Apprenticeship Employer Ambassador Seqirus recently announced that it has signed contracts with the European Commission and 15 European Union Member States to supply influenza vaccines as part of the response to a pandemic emergency. Seqirus is the first influenza vaccine manufacturer to sign pandemic contracts under the EU joint procurement framework.

Seqirus is a global leader in influenza prevention. Seqirus Liverpool is a Centre of Excellence for egg-based influenza vaccine manufacturing. It is one of the biggest biotechnology sites in Europe and the only injectable influenza vaccine manufacturer in the UK. It also produces the only licensed adjuvanted seasonal influenza vaccine.

Regional role model

Seqirus Liverpool is one of Liverpool City Region’s Apprenticeship Employer Ambassadors. There are also two LCR Apprentice Ambassadors employed by the company. Siobhan Saunders, chair of LCR Apprenticeship Hub comments:

“It’s fantastic news that Seqirus has secured these contracts to supply vaccines for influenza pandemics. What a wonderful coup for the region in such a respectable field. We’re very proud to have Seqirus in our network of regional apprenticeship ambassadors. They’re a shining example of an apprentice employer, providing a growth-focussed working environment for apprentices, and a role-model for other employers in the region.”

Passionate about apprenticeships

Liverpool City Region Apprenticeship Ambassador Network consists of 21 regional employers who have recruited apprentices as part of their workforce. They are passionate about their experiences with apprentices and want to promote apprenticeships to other employers. Their role is voluntary and they contribute by promoting apprenticeships through their supply chain, providing information to schools, parents, residents as well as other employers.

Meanwhile, there are individual Apprentice Ambassadors who help the Apprenticeship Hub raise the profile of apprenticeships in the region. They are outstanding examples of apprenticeship success and, as such, are fantastic role models. As employed individuals who have completed or almost completed their apprenticeships, they are ideally placed to promote the programme, and importantly to share their experiences of what it’s really like to be an apprentice.
