tpm Launch Team Leading Apprenticeship Standard

Switching from Apprenticeship frameworks to standards was one of the cornerstones of the Government’s Apprenticeship Reforms which were launched in April 2017. A gradual process of replacement has been underway since then and by August 2020 all Apprenticeships will be delivered as standards. Many LCR Apprenticeship providers already offer one or more of the new standards, including Liverpool City Centre-based tpm. They have recently started delivering the new Apprenticeship standard in Team Leading and Supervising to complement the suite of Apprenticeships they already have on offer.

Many employers who have developed their existing staff through tpm Apprenticeships want to continue to progress their employees onto further training. tpm is now in a position to help them achieve them through this level 3 Apprenticeship standard in Team Leading and Supervising.  In particular, the standard is perfect for employees who are working in a first-line management role or looking to progress towards it. As with all tpm’s Apprenticeships, the course is flexible and fits around existing roles. Additionally, employees can opt to study for a Diploma in Management in parallel to the Apprenticeship.

Who is this Apprenticeship for?

This qualification is an ideal way for staff to progress in most businesses. Specifically, it is perfect for employees with any kind of management responsibility or for staff who are aiming for these roles. This Apprenticeship standard develops interpersonal skills such as leading and managing people, building relationships and effective communication. It also enhances organisational performance by developing skills in operational management, project management, and finance. Furthermore, it builds the personal effectiveness of employees who develop their decision-making skills and explore self-awareness.

A Perfect Progression!

The Apprenticeship standard is an ideal progression from an advanced Apprenticeship in business administration or other areas where a member of staff is taking on supervisory responsibilities. After they complete the Team Leading standard, staff can progress onto a level 5 operations or departmental qualifications

What does this standard entail?

The programme lasts 12 to 18 months and combines on and off-the-job training. At tpm, this includes webinars, workshops and practice sessions on skills and professional behaviour. There is also an element of self-directed learning and distance learning. Apprentices spend at least 20% of contracted working hours on off-the-job training. Each apprentice accesses support from a tpm personal trainer by phone and email. The trainer visits the workplace every 6 weeks to review progress and identify any specific support the apprentices need.

Team Leading and Supervising is one of the new standards now available which are gradually replacing Apprenticeship Frameworks. By August 2020 all apprenticeship frameworks will have been replaced. The process is already well underway and many Liverpool City Region Apprenticeship providers like tpm are now offering new standards.
